Les œuvres de Kremer et Miller semblent se répondre, similarité de style et de technique, alors que les deux artistes vivent l’art et le monde de façon très différente. L’une est une artiste contemporaine, l’autre est un artiste handicapé.</span><br /></p></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:Times;"><p><span style="font-family:Helvetica;font-size:100%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(102, 51, 51);">Tous deux marient la couleur et le trait. Lignes, signes reproduits encore et encore jusqu’à l’obsession. Il émane de leurs œuvres une énergie puisée dans le choix audacieux des couleurs et une force sublimée par les motifs répétés. En France, son image figure sur tous les objets imaginables : bouteilles de champagne, porte-clés, tapis de souris, matelas… </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:0cm"><span lang="FR" style=";font-family:Helvetica;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">George Washington et Mona Lisa (La Joconde) sont devenus les ambassadeurs de facto de leur pays, s’exportant en tous types de formats, de couleurs, et de formes. Ils quittent leurs pays ‘natal’ pour circuler librement tout autour du monde. Leurs portraits atterrissent même à l’hôpital psychiatrique d’Austin dans le Texas, et c’est là où Ike Morgan les a découverts. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:0cm"><span lang="FR" style=";font-family:Helvetica;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Ike Morgan a tendance à peindre des choses qu’il trouve au hasard. Ses œuvres sont créées à partir d’images qu’il a sous la main, dénichée dans des livres, des magazines, des journaux ; tout lui est bon. Cela dit, quand ont est confiné dans un hôpital psychiatrique dans le Texas, le choix de matériels est forcément limité. Mais il y a toujours un billet d’un dollar qui traîne, et miraculeusement, Mona Lisa n’est jamais très loin.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:0cm"><span lang="FR" style=";font-family:Helvetica;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Les œuvres de Morgan sont peintes avec rage, mais aussi très méticuleusement. Il choisit un sujet et le peint encore et encore jusqu’au moment où il le juge digne d’apparaître. Et puis il continue, encore et encore. Après tout, une fois atteint le summum, pourquoi s ‘arrêter ? La production fiévreuse de ces portraits imite le marketing tout aussi fiévreux des produits qui portent l’image de ses sujets.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:0cm"><span lang="FR" style=";font-family:Helvetica;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Ike Morgan a aussi réussi un exercice d’innovation. En dessinant les mêmes images d’une manière incessante – s’arrêtant seulement pour manger, boire, ou dormir -il est forcé d’employer une grande panoplie de matériaux et de techniques : couleurs variées, épaisseurs de traits différents, multiples poses et arrière-plans. Le résultat est unique et étonnant.</span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:0cm"><span lang="FR" style=";font-family:Helvetica;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Mona Lisa et George Washington son deux des sujets préférés de Morgan, et ils sont devenus iconiques dans sa propre œuvre. Les peintures choisies pour cette exposition sont des exemples particulièrement pertinents de son travail inimitable. Vers la fin des années soixante-dix, il fut diagnostiqué schizophrène et fut hospitalisé au </span><i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Austin State Hôpital</span></i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"> (hôpital psychiatrique) de 1977 à 2000.
